Day 5, Detox and fast on Koh Samui

MORNING: Time is going too fast! This morning was Day 5 of the detox and I have lost 7lbs (half a stone)! Amazing! Very happy. Except, it doesn't seem to be fat loss - stomach still seems as flobbly as norma, but never mind, I've done no exercise so that's why. After this I'm cycling from northern Thailand over to Laos for 11 days, so surely that'll shift the flobbles, (except I suppose I'll be eating normal food then!) EVENING: WHaaaaatt??? I weighed myself again and I've put on 4 lbs?? Bizarre, since I had 2 good colemas today. How very distressing. Oh well, typical of ME to be the only person on this detox to PUT ON weight! Watched a film in the evening called the Ph Miracle -  some sensible/interesting things to say. Then I watched something else - a guy doing a speech - (INSERT TITLE - what was it??) Here's a programme to follow - see this post. and this post for notes from the film Food Matters Click here for Day 6

It's all about the soil. (Notes from Food Matters)

Notes from Food Matters..

Reasons for growing yourself / eating only fresh picked food:
  • If it is 5 days old, how much nutritional value do you think really get from it?
  • Soil - if it's deficient, the vegetables are too! Vicious circle of pests and more chemicals to counteract, soil gets more deficient
  • Fertilisers like NPK. Soil requires 52 different minerals.
  • supermarket / nutrient depleted veg makes us deficient and toxic
  • There are live enzymes in raw veg - these are workers - these deplete when you cook! The body can benefit more from RAW food.
  • If your diet is more than 51% cooked food, the body will react as if foreign bodies are entering. Make 51% of your meals RAW!
SUPERFOODS: spirulina - plant based protein source - completely absorbable and doesn't require so much energy to get into your cells. raw honey tumeric cacao beans wheatgrass goji noni coconut SPEND MONEY ON THE BEST SUPERFOODS, NOT A CAR! (our values have got inverted)
  • If you have a bad day of eating you need to have supplements.
  • Vitamins are REALLY important.
  • The higher the dose the better.
LESS THAN 6% OF GRADUATION PHYSICIANS IN THE USAS RECEIVE ANY FORM OF NUTRITIONAL TRAINING!
  • You cannot heal selectively. You nourish the body, and then the body fixes it. Vitamins don't fix it, they enable the body to fix it. So activate your body's healing system.
  • Not one cell in the body is made of a drug.
  • Cutting into the body does not make it better!
A NEW PARADIGM IS NEEDED!
  • We are all eating too much of the wrong thing, and not enough of the right thing.
  • All diseases are reversible - people have been known to arrest cardio-vascular disease without surgery!- stick with the high fibre veggie diet, reduce stress, increase vitamins.
  • Drink WATER
THE WAR AGAINST CANCER IS BEING FOUGHT WITH ONE ARM BEHIND THE BACK, SO TO SPEAK. IT'S A 200BILLION $ A YEAR INDUSTRY! IMAGINE IF WE SOLVED THE PROBLEM. MILLIONS OF PEOPLE WOULD HAVE TO RETRAIN IF THIS TRUTH CAME OUT. ONE OF THE FEW CHOICES A PERSON HAS IS WHAT THEY CAN OR CANNOT EAT. (PW: this is arguable obviously) COLON CANCER IS VERY SERIOUS AND HARD TO TREAT. BUT IT IS 100% PREVENTABLE...
  • The Japanese have the lowest cancer rates. Seafood, omega 3, green tea.
  • nutritional therapy.
PW ADDS:

THE SOLUTIONS ALREADY EXIST WITHIN NATURE

4 week change your life health programme

These are my notes from a film I watched whilst detoxing in Thailand. (see Day 6) WEEK 1
  • remember - natural therapies like this need 2 months to show themselves
  • Throw away all polyunsat fats like sunflower corn even seseme oils - they cause mutations in DNA..(??!)
  • Become aware of all saturated fats. Animal fats . Artifically hardened fats and partially hydrogenated veg oil - in things like cookies etc. Trans fatty acids damage cell membranes.
  • Use olive oil - the body handles this best. Best to keep in fridge. Only a tiny amount of brands are pure. Extra Virgin doesn't mean anything. (PW: well, knew this already. He doesn't mention coconut oil also great)
  • Cut out any artificial sweetners and colours.
  • eat loads of broccoli! The greatest cancer protector. Start increasing number and variety of veg you eat.
  • Eat Salmon or wild sardines. or Flax seeds as alternative - grind in small amounts to sprinkle on salads etc (1 tblespn a day
  • take 1000-20000 mg of Vitamin C TWICE a day!!!! (stay below the diarrhoea levels) this is a powerful antioxidant
  • Get WALKING!
  • Follow your breath for 5 mins every day. Gets your mind into neutral.
WEEK 2
  • Drinking water. Find out what's in yours.
  • Investigate soy for isoflavonoids. Find out what products are out there you could eat.
  • Drink Japanese green tea instead of caffeine.
  • Supplements: take 1 capsule betacaratene
  • Walking - 15 mins a day
  • Go on a news fast - news is a major source of negative mental states. NOTE TO SELF: Turn off TODAY PROGRAMME ON RADIO 4 and set to Radio 3 instead!!!
WEEK 3
  • Investigate toxins in food. Be aware of what's contaminated. - eg strawberries, peaches, spinach - especially if shipped in from USA. (You shouldn't be having these anyway cos of your food miles though! ) BUY ORGANIC.
  • electro magnetic pollution - start becoming aware of.
  • Eat more fruit and veg. Replace meat with soy. Increase fish and flax.
  • Supplements: Vit E 400 units
  • Increase walking to 25 mins a day
  • Start to be aware of being only around people who make you happy
WEEK 4
  • investigate sleep.
  • eat more garlic
  • 25 mins walking as well as stretching - this is a very powerful way to change the way we feel
  • go on News Fast for 2 days
etcetc WEEK 8
  • Review changes you've made and figure out how to modify to keep integrated
  • experiment with a tonic - eg ginseng
  • brisk walking 45 mins a day 5 days a week
  • do 8 breath breathing technique during meditation - harmonises the nervous energies, improves outlook, calms emotional stress
  • News Fast 7 days.

Day 4 Fast and detox in Koh Samui

So it's Day 4 and I'm wondering why I feel fine - you're supposed to feel a bit sick by this point. I am going to have to show you a photo of what's been coming out of me because otherwise you are missing the point. Look away now if you don't want to see! Actually no, I've chickened out. I'll tell you what, I'll upload them to a - post, and you can ask me for the password - or guess it! Here it is!>> Meanwhile, I'm realising that my nails are stronger and whiter and growing really fast. And every night I'm going crazy for all their instructive videos - some of which I've seen before, some not - you can see a list of films here>> . But I'm learning about how the colon really works, and why I've had the ailments I've had. And it makes sense, reading Dr Jenson's book and reading Rich Anderson's book - that 90% of human diseases would come from a dirty colon. There'll be more on this later. so day 4, and getting used to this yellowy brown mucoid plaque come out...and wierd white bits are coming out of me too- the size of baby's teeth, and the twisted patterns of presumably the intestine wall on one side, with smooth surfaces on the other. You can see photos here, if you want to ask me for the password, (or guess it).  After much discussion with various expert fasters and cleansers, we think these are made of cholesterol. This is I think proved later - 3 weeks later - when the white bits that I have stored in a little plastic bag, seemed to have melted into fats. Later, I find out that they look very like polyps. Did I have polyps in my colon??Are there more? By the way, I have lost a pound a day so far on this fast. Doesn't sound like much compared to my companions, and TV presenter Jessica from Real Hustle who says she's lost 9 lbs, but it's promising! Down from 142 lbs on wednesday to 138 lbs today - hurrah!

Day 3, Fast and Detox at Koh Samui

Day 3, morning colema. Kind of beginning to get the hang of it, finding it fascinating. Here's how it works. You MUST put a kitchen colander in the loo, with the seat up.This is because you want to SEE what's coming out of you!  You rig up your bucket to a hook on the ceiling.
Media_httptheeggsinmy_eidjc
Make sure the tube is at the bottom of the bucket, fill the rest of the bucket with some filtered warm water to the top. Not too warm. Then put the colema board - basically a fibreglass board with a whole in it - over the loo and balanced on a chair. Make sure all hoses attached correctly ( a level of detail I can't be bothered with here, sorry) and lie down, with towels and ipod. You put the pipe up yer bum, take the clamp off, and the water starts flowing in. Sooner or later (sooner, in my case) the water wants to burst out again, but you have to massage it up the colon and try to hold it in for a bit. After practice, you should be able to get about a 6th of the bucket inside you without letting any out. Reattach the clamp to stop water flowing in, and wait. Once it does come out, squirting around the sides of the little hose that's that bringing the water in, then you'll feel rather a sense of release, to put it mildly, and you release the clamp and let it flow in again. here's a rather satisfying animation: [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JBLcH_pXSE&hl=en_US&fs=1&] Here's an instructive video on what happens when you swallow food: [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTaPUdWAEnE&hl=en_US&fs=1&] We can see from this video that we are supposed to have somewhat of a mucus lining in our small intestine. Day 2, Fast and detox Koh Samui

Oh dear. Had to get up with tummy troubles 4 times in the night... there certainly won't be anything to come out of me now. Also got woken up by the wierdest sounding animal I have EVER heard! I had to record it on my iphone. Turned out to be a 1 foot long gecko-y type thing. Got up at 6.45am, went to the detox bar to collect my bucket and pills and have my first detox drink of the day. Geez, there are so many thin brown healthy-looking Ozzy girls here. And giant fat old men with walking sticks. Jolly strange. Pity it's pouring with rain since I arrived - absolutely typical of my luck, destined to be white.. It's becoming clear that I am going to be very busy with this routine! 7am detox drink - psyllium husks and bentonite clay to absorb toxins from gut and provide bulk for the Gunk to adhere to, with a nice pineapple flavour. Drink quickly, or you cant drink it at all.  Pick up my designated bucket with coffee solution in it. Go back to room and start "rigging up" the bathroom! 7.30 to about 8.30 (except it took much longer!) give myself a colema - more here. 8.30 pills - herbs to loosen the Gut Gunk Optional yoga / chi gung 10am detox drink number 2. Take bucket from room back to colema bar. 11.30  - 6 more pills and liver flush drink or a carrot juice or a coconut water or a veg broth 1pm - another detox drink number 3 2.30pm - 6 more pills 4pm another detox drink 5.30 6 more pills and liver flush drink or a carrot juice or a coconut water or a veg broth. Collect Bucket and prepare bathroom for evening colema... 7pm  last detox drink . Take bucket back to detox bar. 8.30 pm 6 more pills 9pm 1 white pill for good bacteria And this routine is basically repeated every single day. You can get takeaway detox drinks if you want to go off an do stuff.. but everything takes a lot of energy! First colema I did was wierd, ok, not very satisfying, but interesting. Second one - Oh. My. God. This is the first time I really believed. Just wierd as hell that this stuff was coming out of me. It wasn't poo. I resolved to keep photographic records logged and catalogued with date and time... To see what happens when you give yourself a colema, click here. Click here for Day 3

Day 1, Fast and Detox at Koh Samui

This is a much shortened amended version of an account of the fast I'm doing in Koh Samui Thailand. If you are only reading one post, read here. Day 1 Arrived 9am from Bangkok. Feeling coldy, ill and run down, cross that the receptionist wasn't particularly friendly and that the taxi driver charged 4 times more than usual. Had a chocolate muffin and my last cup of tea - with condensed milk, since they have no normal milk here - on the plane, so feeling a little guilty. Was advised to start with a liver flush drink, consisting of lots of olive oil and ginger and cayenne pepper - recipe here> The Liver Flush recipe:
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil – anywhere from 2 Tbsp. to 1/3 cup, as you prefer
  • Freshly squeezed lemon or lime juice, 1/3 cup
  • Fresh garlic, 3-5 cloves
  • Fresh ginger, 1/2″
  • Cayenne Pepper, dash to taste
  • Freshly squeezed orange juice, 2 cups
Put all ingredients in a blender, blend and drink immediately. It's actually really yummy but I felt sick for the rest of the day. Sometimes that happens. Then I had a raw salad with dressing for lunch and a raw burger of nuts and seeds for dinner. Should say that that was pretty darn hard for me, knowing that there's all this (cooked) yummy Thai food to be had... Also not feeling great in the old tummy department since I'd been ill for a week with something. Watched a rather odd video with some American Hawaian-shirted colonics experts "sort-of" demonstrating how to give yourself a colonic, which just made me a bit more confused because I couldn't understand how you get the gut-gunk (henceforth my name for this stuff that comes out of you - yes you too - when you are doing this - more later) out of you - after all you don't want it coming back down the tiny hosepipe that delivers the water INto your bum. So far finding the people all a little odd. A loud trio of tattooed Englishmen - well one was a fake-breasted but very pretty tiny girl who turned out to be a tv presenter called Jessica, she presents Real Hustle I think it is, covered in tattoos they all were  - anyway they were 1 day ahead of me and the boys very loudly proclaiming how well their first colema had gone. Meanwhile the slightly teary tv presenter told me she hated it, had burst into tears and given up... I was filled with dread at having to do myself the next day. (you don't have to do it on your first day). Anyway over the week we had rather surreal discussions together about what was coming out of us and how to massage our stomachs to get more water up, and Jessica told me she lost about 9lbs in the first few days.. Bedtime: took the brown pills they gave me and tried to go to sleep in my rather lovely cabin, but resolving to ask to move rooms since next door woman was playing her tv at top volume. Hmmm, hope I settle in. Click here for Day 2

Local supermarkets and what to do with them

I wish people would use their local shops more and not go to supermarkets so much. And I don't mean the posh new shops, I mean the ones that have been there all along. Living near the Harrow Road, we've got the Jamaican corner shop or the Indian or the Lebanese and I can get 20 times the amount of fennel seeds I could get in a supermarket, for 1 fifth of the price, or yoghurt, for half the price of Sainsbury's, or waaaaaay better value vegetables, or nuts and seeds, or honeyed baklava, or olives, or yam with the shopkeeper telling me what to do with it, and the shopkeeper knowing me. Perhaps when I've got time I could start an awareness campaign as part of our local transition movement. (www.ttkensaltokilburn.ning.com) Or I could film a portrait of the local shopkeepers and their lives here. Or get them to demo their family recipes on camera in their homes.

The Bloody Well Smell It Yourself campaign...

Right, I'm launching some new campaigns. The first one will be called "The Bloody Well Smell It Yourself" awareness week. This means USE YOUR NOSE to test whether food is really off or whether you are just being ripped off by the manufacturer who are covering their backs by putting the Use By or Best Before date a week before it really needs to be there. OR the opposite problem is of course having loads of rotting stuff in the fridge. Particularly single people who are sharing domestic quarters do this, I find. They buy in bulk once a week or less, when hungry, and don't get around to planning or eating up leftovers. Either way, it's all WASTE. And that means methane emissions from landfill 23 times worse than Co2. So the answer - buy less more often, locally not at the supermarket, plan better, and don't believe the hype about dates. Here's someone who's started a charity to redistribute surplus food to the needy : http://www.fareshare.org.uk/

Canape-tastic

[gallery columns="2"] I went to a canape-making masterclass and it was great fun and the canapes were the best I have ever tasted. It seems to me that each canape must cost about £10 considering the effort and the array of ingredients going into a single one...  anyway they were YUMMY. An article on making canapes in the Times Online: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/food_and_drink/article6933542.ece
